Free Money

Strategy
  • Where will you go? Reitz Union
  • What kind of people will you approach? People who are by themselves and look like they aren't doing anything important.
  • What will you say to get the conversation started? "Hey I just won the lottery and I'm giving away money."
  • What is your plan for the conversation? I'll approach people and shove money into their hands.
  • Out of five attempts, how many dollar bills do you think you will be able to give away.
    • 5 out of 5
Reflection

I think what made my approach so successful was the "genuine reason". Saying winning the lottery is a quick reason for people to accept your generous donation. At first I didn't understand the point of the assignment. However, thinking about it more. I realized that this assignment was testing your ability to be an entrepreneur and have people "buy" into what you are selling to them. Overall I thought the assignment was fun and I hope Pryor reimburses me $5.

  2. Hello-
I agree with you statement that people are more likely to accept the dollar if you give them a genuine reason. Just like people are more likely to buy something if you give them a reason as to why them should have it. Well done, Check out mine:http://basmacirachel.blogspot.com/2016/02/free-money.html

  3. Hey Kevin,
I also think that if you give people a genuine reason for your giving away of free money they are more likely to take it and will be less suspicious. I employed the same tactic by saying that it was part of a random acts of kindness campaign. Everyone in your videos seemed pretty excited about getting the money so that worked out for you. Good job! Feel free to check out my post here: http://wsentrepreneurship.blogspot.com/2016/02/free-money.html

  4. Hey Kevin,
Your video's were hilarious. I loved the last two reactions. Made me laugh. Your reflection seems to be spot on. I think that part of the assignment was to also gain confidence in approach random people. Which you did a great job at doing. I am an online student, so I do not have the luxury of being able to approach other students. Though I did not do the assignment, I did do the customer interview assignments and it was a little more difficult (for me) to approach random strangers and get them to agree to a interview and also to be recorded.

    Good luck with your semester,
    -Dallin

  5. It's nice to see some genuine reactions from people on campus. The point of this was to gain confidence to approach people about something or start a conversation. It was smart to stay on campus because I would have done the same thing. I dont know if I would go to the mall or shopping center and do it. You alway see social experiments where they go well or turn bad pretty quick.

  6. Hi Kevin!

I found your videos to be highly amusing. The reactions were great, but more so, I loved the first-person perspective on these videos that made me feel like I was experiencing this.

Interesting how people will easily accept the money, no questions asked.
